Toro y Moi - Postman + Magazine (Videos)
Anybody who’s into the indie music scene is aware of this man here, essentially a legend in these spaces, he’s back with his 1st release of the new year & it’s as delicious as you’d anticipate it to be. Subtle, funky grooves & bass lines coupled with his simplistic, yet irresistible catchy lyrics, you’ll find yourself singing along to this ditty upon waiting for your packages to arrive. Honestly, it’s the only anthem for the cause I’ve come across as of recent, I’ve heard plenty of records about pushing packages but not so much about receiving them. You remember in Scott Pilgrim Vs The World when Scott orders whatever he orders from Amazon then immediately waits at that door? That’s kind what this record is like but in musical form so someone tell that postman to hurry up with the package, the tracking says it’s here in town so deliver that shit Toro!
Of course, wouldn’t be a single without an accompanying music video right? What’s beautiful about these visuals though is that longtime supporters of his get to rejoice in him showcasing a lot more of his Filipino roots than before. Somebody needs to give that blue P.O. box an award of some sorts for its performance here in these visuals, my guy even made it the mountaintops! It’s always exciting checking the mail cause you never know what you’re gonna receive, hopefully it ain’t “just another bill” to pay or some other unwarranted shit that doesn’t concern you. He may have the flyest mail truck in existence & if he was my delivery man, I’d always look forward to his arrival cause I know he wouldn’t waste my time with junk mail.
But wait, there’s more! Not only do we get two singles but two music videos as well? Toro just spoiling the fans at this point ahead of his upcoming album release! On “Magazine”, he snags a feature from Salami Rose Joe Louis, a woman of many talents & not just in the musical world either, she’s also a planetary scientist so it makes sense being how out of this world her work with Moi here is, many astral projections I’d say! The visuals are as warped as the music is & the two together on one record is as galaxial as two stars colliding & exploding into something brighter than the eye can see. If this is how we’re getting fans excited for his next full length “MAHAL”, slated for release just before the end of April, the 29th to be exact, then I’d say we’re in for another classic Toro album & I’m almost certain it’ll top “Outer Peace” & “Soul Trash” combined!
