First WAVEZ exclusive of the year is coming from Chicago’s own Luck with an amazing feature from Musa Reems and of course on the boards is the homie Na$im Williams who all came together for this track titled “Havoc” that we’re excited to be dropping on the site for our followers today. For the track we decided to do a Q&A with the rapper and producer of this heater and down below you’ll see what we talked about:
This is your first track off your debut project soon to be release in April and we understand that Na$im Williams is on the boards for the whole tape. Was this always in the works from the start or did it come unexpectedly just working with him?
Na$im: Luck and I was introduced by a mutual friend of ours a few summers ago. They would come to my hood, West Town, to chill and vibe. I'd go to Logan Square and do the same. Luck and some of the other homies would go to my DJ sets at house parties around the city; that's when we found out we were really family because we knew the same people. Chicago is a small city. It is hard to find authentic individuals here, so when you do, embrace and build with them.
LUCK: FROM THE START IT WAS ALWAYS IN THE WORKS. THROUGH A MUTUAL FRIENDI WAS FORTUNATE TO WORK AND GET TO KNOW NA$IM OVER A FEW SUMMERS. EVENTUALLY MENTION HOW I WANTED TO WORK ON A PROJECT, WITH HIM BEING A BIG PART OF IT AND HERE WE ARE WITH EL MAESTRO.
You wasted no time to introduce the lyrical slaughterhouse that is your music on this track, can we expect to hear this throughout the project or did you have other vibes for the tape?
LUCK: YES YOU CAN EXPECT THIS THROUGHOUT THE TAPE. WHEN WORKIN ON THIS PROJECT I TOLD MYSELF THAT I COULD NOT GIVE MY FIRST TIME LISTENERS SOMETHING TO OVER LOOK , NOR MAKE SOMETHING THAT I WASNT TRULY HAPPY WITH DESPITE THE PROGRESS OF THE TAPE.
One thing I enjoyed hearing from the track was the Pinky & The Brain samples which when we think of them it’s always about them planning to take over the word, is the track here your blueprint to take over the world?
LUCK: LOL YEA YOU CAN SAY THAT. I JUST WANT EVERY ONE TO KNOW I WAS NOT PLAYING WITH THIS TAPE AND THIS WAS DEFINITELY THE TRACK TO MAKE THAT STATEMENT.
Any inspirations you had during the making of the track or was it just raising the bar out the gate?
Na$im: I was chilling at the Big Wet Studio before my flight to New York City when one of the engineers there, Lil Up, started going through samples. I convinced him to work on it with me. He wasn't feeling it at first until I actually flipped the loop. The rest is history. Luck and Musa did their thing on the record.
As being first listeners of your music, what would you tell us is one thing you would want us to take from your artistry?
LUCK: I WANT YOU TO TAKE AWAY THE WAY I USE MY WODS TO SHOW MY LOVE FOR THIS MUSIC IM MAKING YOU CAN HEAR IT IN MY VOICE IN EVERYTHING NA$IM AND I HAVE WORKED ON.
Your debut project is titled “EL Maestro” in Spanish it means “teacher”, was that the message you were going for? Like to “teach us” about your music or was there another meaning behind it?
LUCK: THAT WAS DEFINITELY THE MESSAGE I WAS GOIN FOR. I TOLD BRUH I WANTED THE PEOPLE TO KNOW A LIL BIT ABOUT WHO I AM AND THE PROJECT WOULD BE LIKE A 101 CLASS ON LUCK.
After you have release the project we know sky is the limit from there, what plans do you have for the rest of the year? Besides taking over the world that is
Na$im: You can expect consistent consistent content from the team and I all year. We are taking our time with creating our art, but we do have enough work to supply our following for the rest of 2018.
LUCK: MY PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR IS TO JUST KEEP WORKIN SO I CAN KEEP THIS MUSIC TO COME FOR MY LISTENERS.
