NASAAN - R.I.P. Fresh (Music Video)

Carrying on the legacy of his father, the late great Proof, Nasaan has been cementing his stamp in the game for a minute now, even before the Eminem co-sign. I came across his recent effort on Royce’s Instagram page & was immediately intrigued by not only the sound but the clear fun he seemed to be having in the visuals. It seems a lot more artists now are doing literally everything themselves, I wouldn’t be surprised if he produced the record himself but here we really get to see his directorial & editing skills in full blown action. It’s just refreshing to hear an MC so confident in his skill, while not trying to emulate what his father was doing before him but rather carve a sound all his own.

Shot entirely in Atlanta, we get to see that portrayal of violence he probably saw growing up. The way this visual is shot is just so immaculate & really showcases his wit as a creative, from the jugging of houses to the hilarity that is his Biden portrayal to his mockery of modern trap artists, it’s like he’s beating these cats at their own game. Not gonna lie though, a lot more people would definitely know this song if his actual moniker was Lil Perc 60, off the album Percy Jackson, distributed through Coc-A-Fella records, I mean where else you gonna get humor of this caliber? It’s just great seeing someone have fun poking fun at the things they don’t like rather than being preachy about it.

I’m not too privy on who Fresh is but obviously it’s somebody close to him who he’s paying his respects to with this record, either that or he’s here to kill whatever the consensus deems “fresh” in this game cause clearly, with everything he’s seen, a lot of it is the furthest thing from fresh. There is also a lot of people getting beat down on in these visuals & I think that just further emphasizes how hard the beat is doing the same thing. Nasaan is definitely a talent that deserves to be on everybody’s radar & not just cause of his lineage or co-signs either, though they don’t hurt, he’s an MC & artist so naturally & we are definitely excited for whatever else is to come in what looks to be a dominating year for the undeniable creative.
