Khalil Perry - Killing As The Sky Get Dark (EP)
Halloween projects are usually hit or miss. A lot of artists rely on cheap scare tactics to give their music a seasonal edge, but most of the time it falls flat. Then every once in a while, you stumble across something with a mystic energy mixed with Dirty South aesthetics; a blend so clean and natural that it becomes haunting for the opposition to match the level.
That’s exactly what Khalil Perry delivered with his Halloween EP, “Killing As The Sky Get Dark.”
From top to bottom, the project feels ominously accurate to the night terrors of the spookiest day of the year while still providing an infectious bounce that refuses to let up. It’s phonk-influenced, but not derivative; Khalil doesn’t mimic the originators; he perfects the style in his own lane, crafting a sound that rattles the whip and causes pure havoc in the streets when the bass hits.
Let me make this be known: “Gorilla Walk” hasn’t left my playlist, hell the whole project hasn’t but this is the one. It stays in rotation religiously and yes, it might be a little wild saying “religiously” and “hell” in the same sentence, but that’s just the type of energy this project pulls out of you. The whole EP goes, but that one? That’s the personal favorite on this side.
Khalil Perry came correct this Halloween. No gimmicks; just raw sound, eerie vibes, and a level of quality that’ll have others rethinking their seasonal drops.
