Chip Tha Ripper - Rapping Paper (Gift Raps 2) (Album)
Christmas came to me in every way possible this year. From physical presents under the tree to audio gifts wrapped perfectly by Chip Tha Ripper, with Chuck Inglish holding it down on the boards, this one hit different. Together, they reunite to bring back the merger and essence of one of my favorite Chip eras with the 13-track album “Rapping Paper,” also known as Gift Raps 2.
Man, I was geeked when this dropped. I’m talking ignorant levels; jamming it loud while writing this, not skipping a single track. The project doesn’t just live up to its predecessor; it polishes what made the original shine and updates it seamlessly for today’s musical landscape. That balance between nostalgia and modern execution is hard to pull off, but Chip and Chuck make it feel effortless.
From the intro to the outro, this project is pure heat; perfect timing too, because it’ll keep you warm all winter. I turned off the Mariah Carey, poured some eggnog in a double cup, lit up something brighter than the lights on my tree, and let Rapping Paper play all the way through. No dull moments. No filler. Just bars, beats, and energy.
Every track hits, but we have to address the elephant in the room: “Fat Rap 4.” I never would’ve imagined Denzel Curry and Larry June on the same record like this, but somehow it works flawlessly. Chuck Inglish’s glossy, head-knocking production sets the tone, Chip holds the ranks with confidence, and both features slide in naturally; making the track feel nostalgic while still knocking hard in the present day.
Rapping Paper (Gift Raps 2) feels like a reminder of why Chip Tha Ripper’s catalog holds weight. It’s a celebration of consistency, and honoring the past without being stuck in it. If this was meant to be a holiday gift, consider it unwrapped and appreciated.
