Defiant Darius - Fed Up (Video)

The audacity of Darius to drop a music video for damn near every track off his latest EP “Southern Hustler” but you can’t even be mad at it cause he & Irrelevant Imaging be making movies & such is the case with the gritty visuals to “Fed Up”, which may very well be his most grim tale to date! Even without the visual treatment, the storytelling of this record was already vivid enough, a cautionary tale of the danger that awaits those who just aren’t built for the street. TJO Spacey gives an excellent performance as the homie turned informant, even before his dialogue exchange with his personified consequence in Darius as he approaches him like the grim reaper, which he may as well be cause just the snarling way he delivers all of his words in that exchange & his verses, the conviction is heard loud & clear, maybe not by him but surely the audience. It’s also an excellent homage to Bishop in “Juice”.

Buddy clearly got his wires crossed. He knew he fucked up cause if you come at the king, you best not miss! Real ones know who I’m quoting. You can tell it lowkey hurts Darius to have to see his brother fall from grace the way he does, to be betrayed by someone he once called “brother” but all that shit went out the fucking window the moment he decided it was a smart idea to go against the code. It’s hard to feel bad cause he was well aware that he took an oath. Darius even tried to warn him, maybe even more than once that he was meant for better things but unfortunately, he wound up just another poor bastard who was in way over his head & such is the case for many who choose this life.

Please note the brilliance as well to slide the skit in midway then bring the music right back in for that final segment of him fading in & out of consciousness. I’m sure in his final moments, he wishes he would’ve just listened to his homeboy but like with most people, we only seem to care or realize things when it’s far too late. It easily can be akin to the final scene in “Menace II Society” even, as I’m sure Darius garnered influence from a lot of those classic street films, as well as possibly his own experiences.
