Westside Gunn - ZILLA (Single)

Back in August, Westside Gunn unleashed the visuals for “ZILLA” exclusively on his social media, promoting both his upcoming Saucony release of the Awesome God and Zilla Fatu’s signing with WWE’s NXT. The result? An immaculate record that delivered exactly what we’ve come to expect from the Griselda mastermind, who once again proved that his artistic vision is operating on a completely different level.

Even with those major announcements attached, we knew Westside Gunn had something bigger cooking behind the scenes. With Gunn, you can never assume he’s simply dropping music just to drop it. There’s always something brewing, another move in the works, or a surprise waiting around the corner. Sure enough, he recently announced his upcoming album with Mass Appeal, HEELMATIC, an absolutely insane title that already has us anticipating what he has in store. But we’ll save the deeper discussion for the official album review when it drops.

“ZILLA” stands on its own as another example of Westside Gunn’s ability to make music with his visuals feeling like one cohesive piece of art. The video operates on an entirely different echelon, bringing an unmistakable aesthetic that complements the record’s gritty production and Gunn’s braggadocious delivery. His rhyme scheme are backed with that signature lethality, packed with the bravado, personality, and authenticity that have become synonymous with his name.

Westside Gunn continues to deliver the real in a way that feels entirely his own. From the fashion to the wrestling references, the visual direction, and the uncompromising sound, everything carries his unmistakable fingerprint. Plenty of artists can try to recreate the formula, but no one can duplicate the vision.

With HEELMATIC on the horizon, “ZILLA” feels like another calculated move from Gunn, who knows how to keep the culture talking while building anticipation for what comes next, and I would love to say I have a clue, but with Gunn, you never know.
