Like - Today Sounds Good (Album)

An album that has stayed in constant rotation for me, requiring multiple playthroughs to fully dissect everything it offers, is Like’s “Today Sounds Good.” At this point, I genuinely believe it deserves a place in the conversation for Album of the Year, and yet it still feels criminally underrated.

I’m not talking just to talk, either. Even if Like wasn’t one-third of one of my favorite groups, I’d still be saying the exact same thing. What makes this project stand out is how effortlessly it showcases everything that has made Like such a respected artist over the years. His slick sense of wit, sharp lyricism, and unique perspective are on full display throughout the album.

Since much of it is crafted by Like himself, every beat feels tailor-made for the stories, emotions, and ideas he’s presenting. There’s a natural chemistry between the lyrics and instrumentals that makes the entire project feel cohesive from beginning to end.

The guest appearances are equally impressive. Contributions from Phonte, Blu, Sir Michael Rocks, BeYoung, Mibbs, and others add another layer of quality without ever overshadowing the main attraction. Each feature feels purposeful and enhances the album’s overall vision.

Tracks like “Washed Gang,” “No Stress Involved,” “Build Me Up,” and “Namsayin’” have been some of my personal favorites to revisit. However, I’d be lying if I said this was an album built solely on standout records. The true strength of Today Sounds Good comes when it’s experienced in full. The album moves mountains when played front to back, revealing new details and nuances with every listen.

The admiration I have for this project is difficult to put into words. It’s rare to find an album that feels this unique while remaining so replayable. Every time I return to it, I discover something new to appreciate. For that reason alone, Today Sounds Good deserves far more recognition than it’s currently receiving.

If you’ve been sleeping on this release, now might be the time to change that.
