Ricki Monique - Immortal (Single)
Yesterday afternoon during my last break at work, I was scrolling through Instagram when I came across this video preview of Minnesota-based lyricist Ricki Monique. She had just dropped a new visual titled “Immortal” a few days ago, which had seen views at a significant pace in the first few days. At first sight, I was unfamiliar with Ricky’s art, but the short clip intrigued me enough to follow through to YouTube to catch the rest of the visual, which I have to say the viewing warmed my soul. I very much enjoyed Ricki’s prestigious wordplay and efficacious cadence that shifted from rhyme to rhyme in such a delicate way that it paved the perfecting viewing to see her artistry in such a constructive manner in the video that I had to start writing for our viewership to be introduced to her poetic greatness here.
Produced with an improvisational style curated by yourbeautifulruin throughout the record, you can sense a dash of feeling throughout the production the more passion spills out. With the production being so essential to the record, it beautifully follows suit in shifting and morphing off Ricki’s emotions so well. Take the beginning of the record where Ricki’s vocal pace starts to pick up speed while the production behind it is free-flowing, so well with her ability to be so lethal with the raps. She’s far off this globe rocking in her world with such lyrical prowess that would scare an army of men with how much hostility her pen holds. The august of her wordsmith ability is potent with eminently precision that is truly remarkable, especially with the way she describes us as creatives. We put it all on the line in hopes we see our dreams come true and hope others cherish our gifts. She speaks freely of how just how immortal she is when it comes to music creation, and you see this throughout the video and listening experience that Rickie holds nothing back to deliver her heart out whenever she can. It’s pretty scary if you think about it; most artists with this caliber are ones we hold to a certain degree, like Andre Benjamin, Lauryn Hill, Jay Elec & Ms. Badu, where I think Ricki’s follow gracefully in the same similar line with these artists. It’s powerful and majestic how she can start with such aggression and transition to carefully tip-toeing around the beat but with angst in her raps. She makes a creative storyline with the visual that all capitalize at the end with a pleasurable bop that sends off this record so lovely and smooth that you want to play it over and over again.
Expect to see more of Ricki Monique on the site; any opportunity that comes for us to champion her gift to the world will make all the time to do so. We highly recommend taking time in your day to check out the video & make sure to add the audio version of this song on your playlist today while sharing it around on all social media platforms.
