Kidz At Play - STFU! (Single)

Shoutout to our creative director, That Kid Carter, who during the weekend introduced me to the Virgina-based music collective, Kidz At Play, by way of their latest single titled “STFU”! I was unfamiliar with the group when originally coming across the single but loved it immediately since it was full of vigorous charisma & eccentric sounds. Continuing my search of the group, I learned there was also a visual release while the track dropped, which was just as brisk as the single and captured the divergent essence of the group that both were a must to share on the site for your viewership today.

Creating a seismic groove with the production laced together goes easy with each artist’s ability to construct their unique wave in their verse. Quincy X takes the first leg of the record with his verse being inspired by Jay Rock’s “King’s Dead” verse, while he throws in a little introduction of his own by giving us some personal takes on the other members of Kidz At Play before hitting the chorus. Simple and plain, “SHUT THE FUCK UP” is heard in repeated fashion by Smyth Knight, who creates the astounding touch of the record since they don’t need to listen to your opinions or critique them, which goes in nicely with Marquis Flower’s verse. He lets off like a canon with how aggressive his wordplay delivers, with each line hitting harder than the last and keeping some rhythm from the chorus catching inside his verse. The single is boastful and full of energy, and the video duplicates that same essence. It’s creative from beginning to end, especially with the scene of the members carrying Marquis while he’s conducting his verse, which shows that this video is on par to be one of the best releases to be seen so far in the year. It’s quite possibly my new favorite record & video to hit my radar which I can see much more attention coming towards in the upcoming days.

I did more research while working on the review & saw the group consisted of some familiar names I’ve heard in the past, like Smyth Knight & the other member I’m learning about as I got through the rabbit hole of their catalog. I love the group's aesthetic, and I’ve been knowing they made a massive name for themselves out in Virginia, with outside areas growing notice of their art with now seeing major cities getting familiar. I’m sure Texas has noticed them already, and if not, I’m happy to help pave the way for them to be caught out here in the Lone Star State. Expect to see more of their music featured on the site in the future but for now, get familiar with their latest release here by checking it out & sharing it on all social media avenues.
