Summer Wars - Victim of the Suburbs x Stuck In the Moment (Singles)
The lively pop-punk band, Summer Wars serenaded the summer of 2026 with a surprise return after some extended time away. Propelled by their energetic sound, the North Carolina act released 2 singles at the start and at the tail end of the summer to promote their incoming EP due in September, “Closer Than It Seems.”
“Stuck in this Moment” and “Victim of the Suburbs” are the singles that spearhead the project and make up half of the upcoming EP. In terms of sound, Summer Wars picked up where they last left off from their last EP “Borrowed Time” with high-energy pace and accustomed melodic vocals at the helm. Which if you ask avid listeners of the genre, could not have come at a better time.
In the current past halfway mark of this decade, it’s notablethat the 2020’s have not been as amorous for pop-punk as the 2010’s were. But it isn’t to say a redeemable second half isn’t possible. In the last 2 years, the emotional and edgy pop-punk of the early 2000’s has seen an uptick of nostalgic appreciation amongst fans and a desire for a new wave of bands to bring forth the sound. Thus, why a young and ambitious band like Summer Wars returning in a moment like this, could be significant for pop-punk in the long run.
With a significant amount of invested ears to appeal to and gain as listeners at this point in time, both “Stuck in this Moment” and “Victim of the Suburbs”provide every bit of enjoyment and satisfaction that comes with a pop-punk track. Stylistically both songs are rather familiar. Laced with melodic verses that arefueled by the desire to find the way out of respecting predicaments. Whether it being from self-reflection or certain elements and influences of everyday life that tend to mold your personality. If a boasting 2-stepping chorus is what you’re looking for. Then you’ll find that in these 2 singles. Providing that flare of swagger fittingly for the evening summer drives.
As a heavy advocate of pop-punk music, it’s exciting to see a once thriving band return to the scene with that very sound and drive that put many on notice. Granted this is only a small serving size after a long break, but a serving is better than no serving. And with only half of the EP out to serve as a gratifying return, the “Closer Than It Seems” EP should serve as a proper holdover for the time being once the remaining 2 tracks get released, and we hear a follow up announcements from the band.
Closer Than It Seems releases on September 17th, 2026.
