Anyee Wright - Lady 404 (Album)

Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you aren’t even looking for them. I came across Anyee Wright by accident, and it turned out to be the best accident.

I was scrolling through Instagram when I accidentally clicked on reels and there I was, listening to one of her self-produced tracks off her tape, “Lady 404,” titled “Ones & Twos.” It instantly caught my attention. I think I ran it back five times before even indulging in the rest of the project. What followed was a soundtrack that stayed in rotation for days. Hell, even as I sit here writing this review, it’s still playing.

Anyee Wright’s mystifying sound is such a beautiful introduction to her artistic identity. There’s so much soul, emotion, and heart woven into her production without having to lay down a single vocal. I can’t even make the comparison to her sound and even if I try, I’m mixing her name with some of the greats that should already give you a clear indication of how special her musical talents are. It’s more than just a series of instrumental it’s a new passage into her world, her emotions that may be hard to explain in words but this the best way she can convey it to the listeners. It’s the kind of musical expression that reminds you that an instrumental can tell a story just as vividly as a verse. From the atmosphere she creates to the textures and emotions woven throughout her sound, her work shows undeniable intention.

Anyee Wright is clearly operating at a high echelon in production. She has an ear for creating something that doesn’t simply serve as background music but demands your attention. “Lady 404” feels like an invitation into her mind, one where the production speaks for itself and allows listeners to get lost in the experience.

The discovery of Anyee Wright is so rewarding, it’s that gratified feeling of stumbling across something special before you even realize what you’ve found. One instagram reel turned into leading my soundtrack for the week and quite possibly the month. That’s the beauty of music: sometimes all it takes is one record to introduce you to an entirely new world.
